Cycle Cotswolds, the cotswolds history.

Chipping Campden

Chipping Campden is an historic market town within an area known as “The Cotswolds” which was designated an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” in 1966.

Chipping Campdens, High Street is lined with beautiful buildings dating from the 14th Century and during the “Middle Ages” was a rich wool trading centre.

The Cotswolds offers spectacular landscapes and picturesque villages predominantly built in the historic Cotswold limestone, which glows with a golden honey warmth.

The geography of the area is perfect for cyclists of all abilities, with its gently sloping hills, surrounded by stunning vistas which ensure there is plenty to see.

“Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty” History:

Shortly after the Second World War the government formally recognised the fact that the English and Welsh countryside had such a rich diversity of scenery it was worthy of protection. This gave way to legislation of the “Areas Of Outstanding Natural Beauty” designations, conserving these areas for future generations to enjoy.
